Languages in the news – August 2015

The Guardian has published its first article in Tigrinya, Eritrea’s most spoken language, examining why so many people are fleeing the country and risking the journey across northern Africa to the Libyan coast and beyond. Click here for The Guardian’s Inside Eritrea series.

The BBC showcases a video by Renata Flores, a 14-year old Peruvian girl whose cover version of Michael Jackson’s ‘The way you make me feel’ in the Quechua language hopes to halt the decline of the language among younger people.
